What are the main reasons on why such a situation occurs and why do a majority of women fall into the trap of indigestion.

Why things have reached a stand still?

A couple of reasons could be attributed to the fact on why a woman has indigestion or gas towards the last stages of pregnancy. Indigestion is something common during week 30 of your pregnancy and is going to get worse as pregnancy tends to progress.

The main reason for it is that the hormones of pregnancy which are ideally meant to relax your muscles in preparing you for childbirth are working on the stomach muscles as well. Oesophagealsphincter which is between the stomach andesophagus tends to act as a one way valve. When the muscle is relaxed it paves way for the acid, from the stomach to splash upward leading to the esophagus. The lining of the stomach is known to handle this acid.

The feeling of acidity that you get is referred to as heart burn, and this has got nothing to do with the heart. The feeling is typical to a situation where you have swallowed lit matches.

It is not just about the hormones only, as the indigestion could also be due to the fact that your kid in the stomach is growing. Their growth is going to push the uterus up to the abdomen, and this in turn pushes upwards towards the stomach. This pressure does not work out to be a good thing as around the same time Esophageal sphincter relaxation also occurs.
